Choosing table tennis rubber

Compare sponge thickness, hardness, grip and care through your strokes rather than product hype.

Connect rubber to one stroke

First decide which stroke needs more reliability: serve, short receive, opening topspin, block or defence. Extra speed and catapult are not automatically useful when timing still varies. Choose a manageable baseline and change at most one side at a time, so practice reveals cause and effect.

Understand the variables

The rubber FAQ treats sponge thickness, sponge hardness, speed, spin and wear as separate properties. Thicker or harder versions can respond differently, but technique and blade also shape the outcome. Compare options in the same drill instead of expecting one rating number to predict every racket combination.

Check use and condition

Clean the surface according to its maker’s care guidance and replace it for observable loss of grip, damage or inconsistent response rather than a fixed calendar date. For competition, covering must be even, cover the blade without extending beyond it, and be used without prohibited physical or chemical treatment.
